Đurić Confers with Burundi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Burundi Édouard Bizimana, who is heading his country’s delegation at the commemorative gathering marking the 65th anniversary of the First Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade.

Welcoming his Burundian counterpart to Belgrade, Đurić said that Serbia remains committed to developing relations with the countries of the African continent.

He emphasised that Serbia and Burundi are bound by a traditional friendship founded on the principles of solidarity, mutual understanding and support.

Noting that dynamic political dialogue provides a sound basis for strengthening bilateral relations, Đurić expressed particular satisfaction with the visit of President of Burundi Évariste Ndayishimiye to Belgrade last year.

According to Đurić, the regular political consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs have also contributed to closer ties and better mutual understanding.

The Serbian Foreign Minister thanked the Republic of Burundi for its support for Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, stressing that Kosovo and Metohija is a matter of the utmost national and state importance for Serbia.

The interlocutors agreed that there is considerable potential for strengthening cooperation and advancing relations in the economic sphere. Đurić also highlighted agriculture, digital transformation and IT infrastructure, as well as education through the “World in Serbia” project, as areas offering opportunities for further cooperation.

Minister Đurić said that he was pleased that Burundi had recognised the importance of the theme and the quality of the concept put forward by Serbia for the Specialised Expo 2027, and that it would participate in this prestigious event in Belgrade.
